Moombah Dinner!!

Well Miami music week is upon us.  A bunch of us from Florida and Facebook moombah groups thought it would be a good idea to all sit down and break bread.  So with some help from some friends (Viv, Marcus Dowling, and SomeJerk)  I took the idea and ran with it.  Have had interest from some of the stars of the moombah game, but because of scheduling, I wont say who in case they have to back out.  But we will be meeting at 5pm at Latin Cafe 2000, 2501 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33137-4517.  A Facebook event has been created and linked below:

The search for Dale Moombahton

(First off let me preface this as FICTION, done purely for entertainment)

So the whole time I have been into moombahton, I have heard mention of a man named Dale Moombahton.  Recently I caught up with Dave Nada and got recounted a story about the man from the man.  Apparently Dale was there at the beginning and influenced the birth of moombahton.  It goes a little something like, Dale was the guy in DC that was always around.  Few people knew him well, but those that did loved him.  He had a few dj friends and was someone who was appreciated to hang out in the booth.  Dave was supposed to be playing a party for his cousin and worried about being bored when not djing, Dave invited Dale to come along.  They got to the party and Dave got a bit worried.  Knowing he hadnt brought anything that fit the tempo being played, he looked over at Dale and asked if he had his back if the dj booth got rushed.  Dale just laughed and said “Pitch that shit down!”  Dave did and it went well.  Later they were discussing the night over a fifth of Makers Mark and Dave said he was thinking about doing some edits at the tempo and wanted to name them after Dale.  Dale being modest suggested Dave use the song Moombah as his first edit so that it being called Moombahton.  And that my friends is the story of how moombahton came to be.

Now all that being said, I have made it my personal quest to meet Dale Moombahton, and I heard he is going to be in Miami to hang out for WMC/UMF so I am looking to track  him down!

Mendez spreads the Holiday Cheer

If you don’t know who Mendez is, you for sure haven’t paying attention to the Moombahcore side of Moombahton.  He is one of the people responsible for El Cuco Recordings, which is well on its way to becoming the go to label for the sub genre.  He also is responsible for several Moombahcore remixes of tunes from sister dubstep label Ultragore.  It would also appear he loves to give at Christmas time.  He has blessed the Moombah community with not one, but two gifts.

First is an EP of Moombahcore vs Dupstep remixes/edits available for free by liking his Facebook fan page here:

Second is a Moombahsoul/Moombahluv OG track featuring the man himself tickling the ivories available from his sound cloud:

Jon Kwest on that Roller Boogie

Growing up in the 80′s some of my first exposure to electronic music was at the Roller Rink.  Thinking back, I can conjure up Don’t Stop the Rock by Freestyle just by driving by a Rink these days.  Jon Kwest was also a product of these times.  He decided to give the mix up to a couple of Roller Rink classics:

Jon Kwest – Like Taking Candy From A Stranger by Jon Kwest

Jon Kwest – Weekday Warrior by Jon Kwest

Don’t forget to cop some of his other work out on the Sound Freq Sessions on Beatport:

That New New

So what happens when you give the kids of the moombahton movement a chance to show out?  Everyone steps up to the point you have to release it in 2 parts.  Curated by Generation Bass with support from Mixmag, this comp features the up and comers.  Four Florida (BigMakk, Mango Troops, Somejerk, and Frandomeda) acts are included along with the likes of Shelco Garcia and Teenwolf, Cabo Blanco, Kid Cedek, J-Trick, Freak Philip and others.
